Employee rules & conduct

1. Uniform ,Grooming and Hair Standards
-
- Full uniform required: Bluebrook shirt with navy blue scrub pants.
- Jeans with Bluebrook shirt allowed only on Fridays; light or dark blue jeans permitted, black jeans are not acceptable.
- Hair must be neat, tidy, and well-groomed at all times.
- Acceptable hair colors: black, brown, dark brown.
- Unnatural or bright colors (blonde, red, white, grey, blue, purple, yellow, green, etc.) are prohibited.
- Hair extensions may not exceed mid-back length.
- Hairstyles should be neat and professional; no extreme styles or unkempt looks (e.g., no bantu knots).
2. Accessories and Jewelry

- Minimal, safe, and work-appropriate accessories only.
- No gold or oversized jewelry during work hours.
- Avoid flashy or distracting accessories.
- No accessories that pose hazards while caring for children

3. Professional Presentation
-
- Maintain a clean, modest, and fully professional appearance.
- Clothing must be neat and suitable for working with children.
- Jeans are allowed only on Fridays with a Bluebrook uniform shirt.
- Socks and closed-toe footwear are required daily; crocs are allowed only if fully secured and approved.
- Avoid anything posing a safety risk while working with children.
- Nails must be trimmed no more than 1 inch past fingertips; modest colors only. Fluorescent or loud colors are prohibited.
- Presentation and behavior must reflect Bluebrook Academy’s standards of professionalism and care.
4. Absenteeism & Tardiness
- Staff are expected to arrive on time for every shift.
- Failure to communicate lateness or absence may result in removal of that day’s pay.
- Employees who are unable to report to work or who will arrive late must notify their manager as soon as possible, and no later than two (2) hours prior to the start of their shift, to allow adequate time for coverage arrangements. If an absence is known in advance, time off must be requested directly from the manager, who will determine the most appropriate scheduling.
- Failure to advise management prior to the 2 hour window, the day will count as a vacation day and will be removed from your available vacation dates for the year.
- For late arrivals, employees must advise when they expect to report to work. Notification to a co-worker is not sufficient.
- If an employee is unable to call due to illness or emergency, someone may call on their behalf. If the manager is unavailable, the information may be left with another manager.
- Failure to report to work for three (3) consecutive days without notifying Management will be considered a voluntary resignation or job abandonment.
- In general, five (5) absences within a 90-day period, or a consistent pattern of absence, will be considered excessive. Three (3) late arrivals within a 90-day period will constitute a pattern of tardiness and will be treated as the equivalent of an absence.
- Excessive absenteeism, lateness, or leaving work early may result in disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal.
5. Salary & Payment
-
- Employees are paid on the 15th and last business day of each month.
- Payment is made via bank transfer only; no cash payments.
- Providing a bank account number is mandatory to receive salary.
- Salary payment will be withheld if account information is not provided.

6. Cash-Handling Policy (Strict No-Cash Zone)
-
- Bluebrook Academy strictly prohibits accepting cash from parents or anyone.
- Accepting cash will be treated as theft and result in immediate termination.

7. Cleanliness & Classroom Maintenance
-
- No custodians employed; teachers and caregivers are responsible for:
- Keeping classrooms tidy at all times.
- Cleaning immediate areas daily.
- Maintaining a clean, sanitary environment for children.
- The last-shift staff member must take all trash to the outdoor bin, lock it, and ensure it is secure.
- All staff must empty classroom trash into the kitchen bin before leaving each day.
- Failure to maintain cleanliness may lead to disciplinary action, including termination.

8. Conduct & Disciplinary Action
Receiving two written warnings may result in a performance management probation or termination at management’s discretion.
Repeated issues with cleanliness, unsafe behavior, or policy violations may lead to termination.

9. Theft Policy
Theft is strictly prohibited, including:
Taking school supplies.
Taking items belonging to staff or students.
Taking anything not personally purchased.
Theft will result in police involvement, charges filed, and immediate termination.

10. Weekly Spot Checks
Spot Checks are a method of Risk Prevention that is used within our school to stop behavior that negatively affects the school.
These checks will occur without notice weekly by an individual who is not associated with the school to prohibit bias
Here are the areas of focus for the Weekly Spot Checks:

Items being in the correct place for the child and not in another child's area, bin or bag

Daily report card completed up to the point of the check for that day

Children having their uniforms on daily
-
Children have been signed in and or out for the day
-
A photo / video is sent to parent on Monday, Wednesday and Friday
-
Your environment is clean and tidy
-
Children's worn clothes are neatly folded (on the wrong side) and placed in bag
-
Children's bottles are washed and placed in their bag to return home
-
All items for the child is labeled.

Diapers labeled including the one on the child during inspection
-
Children's file is in order or evidence that the item needed by the file was requested at least once by your daily report cards
-
Attendance roster is completed by 11:00 a.m.

​You may view your status as a care giver at anytime via a link that will be shared. (you will be able to see how many bad letters / good letters you have)

Grades for spot checks will be as follows:
​
​K is Fantastic
You earn K’s when your daily checks are flawless
You earn K's for perfect attendance at the end of the year
You earn K's on the 15th of the month for 30 perfect daily checks
you earn a K when you have a full month error free
K is the highest grade you can earn in Bluebrook Academy
K’s can eliminate 2 Rs or 1 O from your record
3 B's can be swapped out for a K

B is Good
They come in the form of compliments / good written remarks coming from your supervisor
They can be written or verbal compliments from a fellow staff member
They can be written or verbal compliments from a parent
They can be written or verbal compliments from The Owner
They can also be a post on social media about the service someone received that we are able to tie back to you.
It can be for something specific to an incident that occurred or something you did,
A “B” can automatically eliminate 1 R only
R is Bad
R’s are internal offences
Offenses that are only known to employees and personell of Bluebrook Academy ( no one outside is aware that it happened)
Examples of R's

A dirty sink in your classrrom

Tardiness / Lateness
-
Calling in sick more times than is allowed
2 R’s in equivalent to an “O”

O is Danger Zone
O's are earned for any offence that impacts the outside of Bluebrook
Offenses that can be seen or experienced by persons outside of the organization: parents, friends of parents, medical officials
Examples of O's:
-
(A Facebook Post made by a parent because of something you did or did not do)

A Parent extracts their child from the school permenantly (lost revenue for Bluebrook)
-
A child chokes on an object while in your care
Receiving an O places you back on performance improvement probation in hopes that you will improve and turn the curve
Salary during this period is impacted
-
During you probation, you may not receive any R’s or O’s to your file,
-
Failure to maintain a letter free report card while on probation is subject to termination
